GSAP

GSAP is the JavaScript animation library we use to build motion on websites in code. With it we design scroll-driven stories, smooth transitions and details that catch the eye without tiring it.

What Is GSAP?

GSAP (GreenSock Animation Platform) is a JavaScript animation library that runs in the browser. It can change CSS properties, SVG drawings, canvas and WebGL scenes, in fact any JavaScript object that holds numbers, precisely over time. It doesn't mind what the site is built with: plain HTML, React or Vue all work.

Its strength is the timeline. We can line up dozens of movements to a fraction of a second, link them, pause them and play them backwards. The ScrollTrigger plugin ties these timelines to scrolling: pinning a section to the screen and changing its content as the visitor scrolls is built this way. SplitText breaks text into letters, words or lines, while MorphSVG and DrawSVG morph drawings or reveal them stroke by stroke.

Made by GreenSock, GSAP joined Webflow in 2024, and since 2025 it has been free for everyone, commercial projects included, along with the plugins that used to be paid. It runs on millions of sites because, for years, it has quietly handled the differences between browsers for you.

Where We Use GSAP

We use motion to serve the story, not as decoration. These are the jobs we reach for GSAP for most often:

  • Scroll-Driven Storytelling

With ScrollTrigger we pin a section and reveal steps, screens or product features one by one as the visitor scrolls, so a complex service becomes clear in a few seconds.

  • Openings and Transitions

We build a page's first second, the arrival of the headline and the way menus open and close on a single timeline, so every element arrives at the right moment and speed.

  • Logo and Line Animations

For brand identity projects we prepare SVG animations that draw a logo on or morph its shape; the same file works on the website and in presentations.

  • Small Interactions

Buttons, cards and forms respond to the visitor with short, meaningful feedback that shows what can be clicked and what has changed.

Why GSAP?

  • Smooth and Fast

GSAP runs animations in step with the browser's drawing cycle. When we animate properties the graphics chip handles easily, such as transforms and opacity, pages move without stutter on phones too.

  • The Same Result in Every Browser

The library deals with the small differences between browsers itself, so you see the same motion in Safari, Chrome and Firefox.

  • Built with Accessibility in Mind

With gsap.matchMedia() we define different behavior for each screen size and for visitors who turn on “reduce motion”. Someone bothered by movement sees the content still, but complete.

How We Work on Your Project

First we decide what the motion should say: which section opens as you scroll and what stays still, discussed together on the design in Figma. Then we build the animations in code and test them on real devices.

Before launch we measure the page's speed with PageSpeed Insights and make sure the animations don't slow loading down. We follow the same path on our own sites: the animations on the MHS Links AI home page run on GSAP, ScrollTrigger and gsap.matchMedia().

Frequently Asked Questions

Help Center
Will animations slow down my site?

Not when they're built well. GSAP's core is a small file and we load only the plugins we need. We build motion with light properties such as transforms and opacity, start heavier scenes only as they come near the screen and measure speed before launch.

Do I need to pay a license fee for GSAP?

No. Since 2025 GSAP has been free for everyone, plugins included, and it can be used on commercial sites. The library is served with your site's own files, so no separate subscription is needed.

What do visitors who are sensitive to motion see?

Visitors who have turned on “reduce motion” on their device see a simpler or still version of the animations; all the content and links are still there.

Can GSAP animations be added to my existing site?

Often, yes. We look at how the site is built, assess which sections could use motion and how that would affect speed, and come back to you with a clear proposal.
