What Is Similarweb?
Similarweb is a market research platform made by the company of the same name. Enter any website and it estimates how many visits the site receives, how visitors arrive, which countries they come from and how its traffic has changed over time. Your own analytics show what happens on your site; Similarweb gives an outside view of sites you don't control, including your competitors'.
Its figures are estimates. Similarweb says it combines four kinds of data: analytics from website and app owners who connect their accounts, anonymous traffic data from its own products installed on devices, public web data and data from partner companies. Its models turn these signals into traffic estimates, broken down by channel: direct, search, social, referring sites, email and display ads.
For sites with little traffic there may not be enough data for a reliable estimate, and Similarweb then shows no figures rather than a guess. The free version on similarweb.com offers a high-level summary, while detailed breakdowns and longer history come with paid plans. We read every number as a direction rather than an exact count.
Where We Use Similarweb
We use Similarweb at the start of projects and campaigns, when the market needs to be understood before money is spent. Typical uses:
Competitor Benchmarking
We compare the estimated traffic of your main competitors and how it has moved over recent months, to see who is growing and how large the online market in your sector is.
Channel Mix
We see which channels competitors rely on, such as search, social or paid ads. This helps decide where your budget should start: SEO, Google Ads, Meta Ads or LinkedIn Ads.
Countries and Markets
For businesses working across Türkiye, the Gulf and beyond, we check which countries competitors' visitors come from, which guides decisions about languages and target markets.
Referral and Partnership Ideas
Sites that send visitors to your competitors, such as directories, media outlets and business partners, give us a ready list of ideas for PR, listings and partnerships.
Why Similarweb?
The Market, Not Just Your Site
Google Analytics 4 and Search Console describe only your own site. Similarweb shows the wider market, which your own data can't reveal.
Better-Informed Budget Decisions
Knowing which channels work in your sector takes the guesswork out of the first campaign plan, even though the figures are estimates.
A Quick First Picture
The research needs no access to anyone's site, so a first picture of your market comes together quickly.
How We Work on Your Project
We start with a list of competitors drawn up together with you, then pull their estimates for recent months: traffic trend, channels, countries and referring sites. We cross-check this picture with search data from Semrush and with your own figures in Google Analytics 4 and Search Console.
We compare like with like: Similarweb's estimate for your site against its estimates for your competitors, never your exact analytics against their estimates. Before you decide, you receive a short summary of what the numbers suggest, how far they can be trusted and what we recommend next.
