What Is Tailwind CSS?
Tailwind CSS is an open-source CSS framework developed by Tailwind Labs, built on a “utility-first” approach. Instead of naming every element and writing a separate stylesheet, developers combine small classes that each do one job, such as flex, pt-4 or text-center, directly in the HTML. It comes with no ready-made components, and its default colors and sizes can be replaced with a brand's own.
The design system lives in one place. Colors, spacing, font sizes and breakpoints are defined as theme variables, which also become standard CSS variables. Prefixes adapt any class to a situation: md: for wider screens, hover: for the mouse, dark: for dark mode and rtl: for right-to-left text. When the site is built, Tailwind scans the code and generates CSS only for the classes actually used.
Tailwind CSS is free under the MIT license. Version 4.0, released in January 2025, moved configuration into the CSS file itself and introduced a faster engine built on modern CSS features such as cascade layers. It works with plain HTML as well as with React, Vue, Next.js and Astro projects.
Where We Use Tailwind CSS
Tailwind is how we carry a design from Figma into code without losing detail. We use it especially for:
From Figma to Code
The colors, type scale, spacing and corner radii agreed in the design system become Tailwind theme variables, so the coded site uses exactly the values in the design.
Responsive Layouts
Each component is written for phones first, and breakpoint prefixes adapt it for tablets and wide screens. How an element behaves at every size can be read in one place.
Right-to-Left Arabic Pages
Logical classes such as ms- and pe- set spacing by reading direction rather than left and right, so the Arabic version mirrors itself correctly. The rtl: prefix handles the remaining details.
Reusable Components
Buttons, cards, forms and navigation are built once as React, Vue or Astro components with Tailwind classes. Every new page reuses them, which keeps the whole site consistent.
Why Tailwind CSS?
Consistency Built In
Every spacing, color and font size comes from the shared scale, so there's no room for the random values that slowly wear a design down.
Lean CSS
Only the classes the site uses end up in the final file. Leftovers from old pages don't pile up, and the stylesheet stays small as the site grows.
Safe to Change
Styles live with the component they belong to. Changing one card doesn't unexpectedly break another page, so updates after launch are quicker and safer.
How We Work on Your Project
The work starts in Figma, where the design system is defined. We transfer its values into Tailwind's theme variables, build the core components first and then assemble the pages from them, checking each against the design at different screen widths.
Before handover we compare the coded pages with the Figma screens, check the Arabic right-to-left layout and any dark mode the design includes, and confirm that the final CSS contains only what the site uses. Then we measure the pages with Lighthouse.
