Bing Webmaster Tools

Bing Webmaster Tools is Microsoft's free tool for site owners, Bing's counterpart to Google Search Console. With it we check how Bing crawls and indexes your site, tell it about new pages quickly and see which searches bring you visitors from Bing.

What Is Bing Webmaster Tools?

Bing Webmaster Tools is a free service from Microsoft that shows your site through the eyes of the Bing search engine: which pages Bing has crawled and indexed, which searches your site appears in and what is getting in the way. Bing's reach goes beyond bing.com. Yahoo's results are generated by Bing, DuckDuckGo sources most of its traditional link results from Bing, and Microsoft Copilot draws on Bing when it cites pages from the web.

The Search Performance report shows clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position on Bing, by query and by page. URL Inspection shows how Bing sees a single page, Site Scan crawls the site on request and lists technical issues such as pages returning errors, missing meta descriptions or images without alt text, and the Sitemaps section tells Bing where to find every page. Backlink and keyword research reports complete the picture.

The tool also supports IndexNow, an open protocol launched by Microsoft Bing and Yandex in 2021. With it a site can notify search engines the moment a page is added, changed or removed, and the engines that take part share these notifications with each other. A newer AI Performance report shows how often your pages are cited as sources in Microsoft Copilot and in AI-generated summaries on Bing.

Where We Use Bing Webmaster Tools

We set it up next to Search Console on every site we launch and keep using it in our SEO work, especially for:

  • Quick Setup and Sitemaps

We add your site by importing it from Google Search Console, which verifies it automatically, or with a DNS record. Then we submit the sitemap and check that every language version of the site is included.

  • Instant Updates with IndexNow

When a page is published, updated or removed, IndexNow tells Bing and the other participating search engines straight away. On sites behind Cloudflare we switch this on through its Crawler Hints feature.

  • Technical Checks

We run Site Scan before and after launch and inspect the key pages in each language, catching pages that return errors, blocked addresses and missing descriptions before they cost you visibility.

  • Search and AI Visibility

We follow which queries bring visitors from Bing and, through the AI Performance report, which of your pages are cited in Copilot answers, and we weigh both alongside Search Console data when planning content.

Why Bing Webmaster Tools?

  • Not Just One Search Engine

When Bing understands your site well, the benefit carries over to the places its index is used: Yahoo, DuckDuckGo's link results and the sources Microsoft Copilot cites.

  • A Second Pair of Eyes

Bing crawls your site differently from Google, so its reports sometimes reveal problems or links that Search Console doesn't show. Two sources make the diagnosis more reliable.

  • Free and Quick to Set Up

It costs nothing, and importing a site from Search Console takes a few minutes, so there is little reason for any site to go without it.

How We Work on Your Project

We add Bing Webmaster Tools right after Search Console: we import the verified site, submit the sitemap and make sure robots.txt doesn't block Bing's crawler. Then we set up IndexNow, through Cloudflare or in the site's own code, so changes reach Bing without waiting for its next visit.

Before launch we inspect the key pages in each language and run Site Scan, fixing anything it flags before the site goes live. After launch we review Bing's search and AI Performance data alongside Search Console and report on both in plain language.

Frequently Asked Questions

Help Center
Why should I care about Bing if my customers use Google?

Bing's index reaches beyond bing.com: it generates Yahoo's results, supplies most of DuckDuckGo's link results and is what Microsoft Copilot draws on when it cites sources. Setting the tool up takes little effort, and most of the technical fixes it points to help on every search engine.

Does IndexNow replace the sitemap?

No. The sitemap remains the full list of your pages, while IndexNow announces changes as they happen. Google isn't among the search engines that take part in IndexNow, so for Google we rely on the sitemap and Search Console.

Who owns the Bing Webmaster Tools account?

You do. The site is verified under your own account, directly or by importing it from your Search Console, and you give our team access that you can withdraw at any time.

Will Bing Webmaster Tools improve my rankings?

No tool can promise rankings. It shows how Bing sees your site and what needs fixing; results come from those fixes, useful content and time.
